Head of Department : Prof. Dr. Canan Basar-Eroglu

The Institute of Psychology and Cognition Research was founded 1984, and today consists of several research groups:
  • cognitive EEG research in healthy subjects and neurological and psychiatric patients,
  • psychology of gambling,
  • psychology of arts and cultures, and
  • forensic psychology.
Important theoretical background comes from Gestalt psychologists who formulated some basic principles of how perception is constructed as well as from EEG-research methods showing that the interplay and integration of selectively distributed neural networks firing in different frequency ranges underlies diverse sensory and cognitive functions of the brain.

Teaching responsibilities of the Institute of Psychology and Cognition Research are in the Diploma and Bachelor of Psychology and starting in 2008 in the Master of Neurosciences in the areas of general psychology and neurocognition as well as for the practical training in experimental psychology and some aspects of social psychology and forensic psychology.
